HURRICANE MELISSA RELIEF INFORMATION
The Jamaican Consulate in Philadelphia is providing this website as an information hub for the Hurricane Melissa Relief Effort. We will post information for individuals and organizations that want to assist in the national recovery.
You may choose one of two ways to donate items for the relief effort:
Government of Jamaica Official Relief List (ODPEM)
Global Jamaica Diaspora Council (GJDC) Relief Initiative
The Government of Jamaica, through the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM), has identified specific priority items urgently needed to assist communities most severely impacted by the hurricane. The Consulate of Jamaica in Philadelphia will handle donated items for ODPEM. The Consulate is unable to take any food items or canned goods. These items can be dropped off at Global Jamaica Diaspora Council drop-off locations.

Dear Friends,
The outpouring of support from the Jamaican Diaspora and Friends of Jamaica in the Philadelphia and Delaware communities has been overwhelming. Please accept our thanks for the donations received, both dropped off goods and supplies, and financial contributions made. We are truly thankful for every sacrifice you have made to help Jamaica and our people.
Our drop-off points in Philadelphia and Delaware have become full, and we have secured a warehouse in Philadelphia through the kind courtesy of City of Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle Parker and the support of Donavan West, Director of Business Roundtables. The warehouse is located at 4000 North American Street in North Philadelphia.
Beginning on Monday 1, 2025, we will therefore not be accepting donations at any of our previous drop-off points and will only be accepting donations at the warehouse at 4000 North American Street. Please contact me to schedule any donation drop-offs, as the warehouse is secured and controlled by the City of Philadelphia. We will be accepting only donations of items on ODPEM’s list, which can be found at https://www.jamaicaconsulatephiladelphia.com/
I do also want to thank all of the volunteers who have come out to help us transport, sort, load and package the donated items for delivery to Jamaica. It is through hard work, commitment and unity that Jamaica will Build Back Better.
God Bless You and God Bless Jamaica.
Shipping and Distribution of Donated Items on the Official Relief List
The Consulate will handle the shipping arrangements through the Embassy of Jamaica and the Consulate General of Jamaica in New York and will ship directly to the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM) in Jamaica.
Upon arrival in Jamaica, ODPEM will receive and distribute the items according to the national relief priorities and identified community needs. This ensures that all donations reach those most affected and that disbursements align with the official disaster response strategy established by the Jamaican government.
NOTE: The Donation Declaration Form must be completed for all donated being sent to Jamaica through the Jamaican Consulate, Philadelphia.
The GJDC is accepting relief items including nonperishable food and canned goods. These items can be dropped off at Global Jamaica Diaspora Council drop-off locations. Please ensure items being sent to Jamaica are NOT expired or damaged. Items donated for shipment through the GJDC must appear on the List of Disaster Relief Items for the General Public issued by the Jamaica Customs Agency.

Shipping and Distribution of GJDC Relief Items
Relief items collected by the GJDC will be delivered to a trusted local partner in Jamaica. This partner will work closely with local leaders and organizations to assess the most pressing needs. Based on these assessments, the items will then be distributed to appropriate partner organizations, community groups, or individuals to ensure that support reaches those who need it most.
NOTE: The Donation Declaration Form must be completed for all donated items being sent to Jamaica through the GJDC.
Make a Financial Contribution
In addition to donating relief supplies, individuals and organizations may also support the Government of Jamaica’s official relief efforts by making a secure online financial contribution.
The Government has established a centralized donation portal at supportjamaica.gov.jm
This platform is managed by the Ministry of Finance in partnership with the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM).
To protect donors from fraud or unofficial fundraising pages, please ensure you are visiting the official Government of Jamaica website before entering any personal or financial information.
